On Nov. 1, 2022 the Statesboro Fire Department (SFD) will begin to offer virtual fire inspections for certain types of fire safety inspections.

The Virtual Fire Inspection Program is intended to make fire inspections easier and more convenient for business owners and their employees. The program will focus primarily on re-inspections, which account for approximately 25% of the department’s total fire inspections each year.

“As with any organization or business, we are always looking for ways to improve the services we deliver to the community,” said Fire Chief Tim Grams.

“Our hope is that the Virtual Fire Inspection Program will allow our fire inspectors to be more effective and efficient in their duties while also offering a more convenient option for the business owners.”

The Virtual Fire Inspection Program is voluntary and there is no cost associated to participate. A fire inspector will determine if virtual inspections are appropriate for the business based on the size and complexity of the inspection needed.

If a virtual inspection is deemed appropriate, the business owner or representative will be able to simply scan a QR code found on the back of the inspector’s business card and schedule the virtual inspection.

Virtual fire inspections can also be requested/scheduled through the Statesboro Fire Department’s website at www.statesborofd.com under the “public resources” tab.

Business owners will schedule a date and time for the virtual inspection, and a fire inspector will contact them via their preferred video-conferencing application. Once they accept the call, they will simply follow the step-by-step instructions provided by the fire inspector to complete the process.

The time needed to complete the inspection will vary but is expected to take no more than a couple of minutes. Afterward, the business owner or representative on file will receive an email containing the inspection results for them to keep for their own records.

For questions or more information about the virtual inspections program, contact the Statesboro Fire Department by phone at (912)-764-3473 or by email at [email protected].
