On Saturday, December 15, 2024, long-time baseball fans who grew up in their adolescent years watching, listening to, collecting memorabilia for, and admiring one of their heroes were given the opportunity to meet the legendary third baseman, Terry Pendleton.
This special fundraiser event was sponsored by the Howell Law Group, and all proceeds benefited the Roosevelt Cone Jr. Scholarship Foundation, which provides educational support to local students in the Bulloch County community.
Fans from the older generation and fans from the new generation arrived at Statesboro Sports and Memorabilia in pure excitement to see one of the true cornerstone pieces in Major League Baseball history.
At the event, fans were given the opportunity to have their personal memorabilia signed by the Atlanta Braves Hall of Famer, and they were able to converse with one of their idols, asking various questions while expressing their passion for growing up being a true fan.
Each fan was given plenty of time to take pictures with Terry, so they can look back over the years at this special moment.
“It takes you back to, I guess, how much they enjoy the way you play, the joy you brought them. It says a lot about yourself and how you played the game and how you went about playing the game, so I mean I enjoy it. I don't do a lot of this, but when I come out and do so I enjoy it. I really do,” said Terry Pendleton.
Fans were not only given the opportunity to meet the Braves Hall of Famer, but they were also able to roam throughout Statesboro Sports and Memorabilia finding various vintage collector items around the store.
Thomas Howell of Howell Law Group, the sponsor of this event, is working alongside Roosevelt and Shelby Cone, the co-founders of The Roosevelt Cone Jr. Scholarship Foundation, planning to continue developing future fundraising projects to help make an impact on the community by giving back.
“I found out about their nonprofit organization and I was like, wow, this is really cool. They're helping kids. And, you know, I have a passion for it, obviously, my son and the store and just hanging out," Howell shared. "And I get to combine all my favorite interests. I obviously got my firm involved because I love my people at work. And, you know, I combined it with my love of sports, my son's love of sports, and giving back to the community that hires me to do work. So it just makes perfect sense."
"It's just been a wonderful event," Howell continued. "I feel honored to work with Roosevelt."
Terry Pendleton is now the 4th Braves player to attend an event for the non-profit organization. The Roosevelt Cone Jr. Scholarship Foundation plans to have their next event on February 8th at the Holiday Inn with further information to be posted in the coming weeks.
