GS Eagles

Eagles of the Game:
Jeremy Singleton caught six passes for 101 yards, and Khaleb Hood finished with 11 receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown. Jalen White rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown, and Kyle Vantrease passed for 359 yards and three touchdowns but threw four interceptions.

Key Moments:
Trailing by eight points, the Eagles got the ball back with 3:04 to play, but Hood had it stripped trying to pick up extra yards after a completion, and the Panthers recovered the fumble. State drove down to the Southern 25-yard line while the Eagles spent all three timeouts, and the Panthers converted a 4th-and-1 to seal the win.

With the Eagles (3-3, 0-2) trailing 34-24 late in the third quarter, Marc Stampley II picked off a Darren Grainger pass to set GS up at the State 42-yard line. White rushed twice for 16 yards before Vantrease hit Amare Jones with a 24-yard touchdown pass. The Panthers blocked the PAT, leaving the margin at 34-30 with 2:22 left in the third.

Grainger and the Panthers (2-4, 1-1) converted a 4th-and-4 on their next possession as he found Jamari Thrash for a 6-yard gain. That set up a Tucker Gregg 33-yard touchdown run to increase the margin to 41-30. Southern had its ensuing drive stall out at the Panther 7-yard line after Thomas Gore tackled White in the backfield, and the Eagles settled for a 25-yard field goal by Alex Raynor that trimmed the lead to 41-33 with 8:26 remaining.
