A Southeast Bulloch Middle School student was found in possession of a knife on campus on Nov. 5

The student was reportedly carrying a pocket knife with a two-inch blade and is alleged to have used it to threaten two other students.

According to the Bulloch County Schools Student Code of Conduct, possessing or using a knife with a blade two inches or longer requires a mandatory report to law enforcement. Following protocol, school administrators immediately contacted SEBMS School Resource Officer Kailon Brewton, who initiated an investigation.

Law enforcement subsequently removed the student from the school, and the student will face accountability under both the law and the school district's code of conduct.

SEBMS Principal Todd Veland, Ed.D., notified parents of the incident through an email and a telephone message sent via the school district's mass communication system.

Parents are encouraged to discuss with their children the importance of not bringing prohibited items to school and to reinforce the message, "If you see something, say something." Students are reminded to report any suspicious behavior, unusual activity, or potential safety concerns to a school administrator, teacher, or trusted adult.

Located in Brooklet, Georgia, Southeast Bulloch Middle School is part of Bulloch County Schools, a district comprising 15 schools, including four middle schools. SEBMS serves 845 students in grades six through eight.
