Career Ready Bulloch website launched at Workforce Summit

One of the hardest decision a person has to make in life is choosing a rewarding career path. The earlier you can make this decision, the more prepared you will be to chase your dreams through your career. For Bulloch County students that decision process became much easier thanks to the CareerReadyBulloch.org which was launched Thursday, December 8, 2022 at the Bulloch Career Workforce Summit.

The expansive website is the brainchild of Dr. Julie Chance and was brought to life by the tremendously talented Jeff Giddens.

Second Annual Workforce Summit

Bulloch County Schools CTAE program led by Bethany Gilliam introduced community leaders to the Career Workforce Development Plan last year. The purpose of the annual summit is to give leaders an update on the progress of the group and to help hold them accountable in meeting their goals. This is a comprehensive plan focuses on three pillars:

  • Enrolled - Preparing students for post-secondary academic success
  • Enlisted - Preparing students for careers in the miliary
  • Employed - Preparing students for work in local and regional businesses and industry

They have set three primary goals in order to achieve success. Below are each goal and their progress reports for this year under each goal.

Goal 1 - Sustain a collaborative for developing and monitoring continuous improvement of ongoing communitywide workforce development strategies.

Goal 1 - Updates - Collaborative Team

  • Career Workforce Steering Committee Leadership solidified with facilitators and back ups for each group
  • Whole Group meetings include tours of pathways from all high school CTAE programs
  • Sustainment of structure through changes in stakeholders
  • Evaluation -digital permission forms and consolidated student feedback survey
  • 2nd annual Career Workforce community event held to review progress and announce next steps

Goal 2 - Implement an exemplary district wide program for employability skills training, rigorous coursework, and authentic experiences for all CTAE students.

Goal 2 - Updates - Education Team

  • Externships and Bus Tours started
  • Rebooting YouScience assessment implementation
  • CTAE Graduation Rate
  • Expanding CTAE pathway opportunities for all three high schools
  • Increasing CTSO real life applications of coursework through competitions and community service

Goal 3 - Prepare all students enrolled in Bulloch County Schools to be workforce ready through enrollment, enlistment, or employment opportunities.

Goal 3 - Updates - Community Team

  • Two new Discovery Events
    • 6th grade Ag Expo
    • 11th grade Be Pro Be Proud
  • Work Based Learning increase in participants
  • Work Based Learning opportunities to work at sites aligned to future career interests

Success recognized

At the summit the committee recognized students and teachers who have received awards over the past year.

Georgia Economic Developers Association

Rachel Barnwell, Director of Screven County Development Authority, presented the Georgia Economic Developers Association Economic Development Partnership Designee to the Bulloch County Schools. The award was accepted by Charles Wilson, Superintendent of Schools and Bethany Gilliam, Bulloch Schools CTAE Director.
