When most people attend the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair or the Kiwanis Rodeo they are simply looking for a fun night out with the family. They probably don't realize the impact they are making simply by attending these events and supporting the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro.
On Thursday, May 25, 2023, 25 area high school graduates and their families got a first hand look at the impact attendance and support of the fair and rodeo makes. Each of them were presented with $2,000 scholarships to continue their education through the Kiwanis Memorial Scholarship fund.
The students and their parents were invited to attend the Thursday, lunch meeting of the club where they were presented with the scholarships.
Record number of applicants
This year, the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro, had a record number of applicants and decided to present 25 scholarships to graduating seniors from high schools in Bulloch, Candler, Emanuel and Screven Counties. This $2,000 scholarship will be utilized exclusively to assist with expenses incurred while attending an accredited post-secondary educational institution.
"The Kiwanis Club firmly believes that investing in the education of these bright individuals will contribute to the betterment of our community and beyond," said Christopher Wiggins, President, Kiwanis Club of Statesboro.
The Kiwanis Memorial Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors who have demonstrated exceptional academic excellence and have shown remarkable commitment to leadership and service both within their school and the broader community. These deserving students have displayed remarkable dedication and have set a shining example for their peers.
