Monsters & Mad Scientists week kicks off at Georgia Southern Museum on Sunday

The Georgia Southern University Museum is set to host its first-ever "Monsters & Mad Scientists" event from Sunday, October 27 through Thursday, October 31, 2024, offering a fun-filled, spooky week for all ages. The event is free for Georgia Southern students and open to the public with regular admission prices.

Kicking off on Sunday, October 27, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the event will feature a movie screening of Lake Placid on Sweetheart Circle, followed by a Q&A with Dr. Katy Smith, the museum’s curator of paleontology. Dr. Smith will dive into the connections between the film and real-world creatures, giving attendees a fun, scientific perspective on the horror classic.

Throughout the week, visitors can engage in a variety of Halloween-themed activities, including interactive Mad Scientist demonstrations and a Spooky Slime Lab, where participants can create and take home their own eerie slime concoctions. Kids and adults alike will enjoy photo ops with Gerty the shark’s crocodile friend, a playful nod to the museum’s previous Shark Week events.

For those who come dressed in costume, a sweet treat awaits—free candy will be given to all costume-wearing visitors during their trip to the museum. Guests will also notice themed signage throughout the galleries, exploring spooky connections between music, culture, and natural history, along with new interactive activities tied to the event’s theme.

Whether you're a fan of Halloween or just looking for something unique and fun to do with the family, Monsters & Mad Scientists promises a week of eerie entertainment. Event hours are as follows:
