The Statesboro-Bulloch County Library will be hosting “Homeschool Fridays” gatherings on each Friday of every month. The gathering will begin at 10am in the Isabel Sorrier Conference Room to promote camaraderie and friendship among local homeschooling families. All Bulloch County homeschooling families are invited to attend to partake in activities and fellowship.
Homeschooling is a bold endeavor for any parent to take on. And while certainly rewarding, it oftentimes has the potential to evolve into a solitary venture. So, the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library has incorporated into its monthly calendar a social gathering event for homeschooling parents and children to attend each week.
The event focuses on the interpersonal and social development needs of school-aged children. All the while, it provides an outlet for homeschooling parents to connect and bond with each other on their shared homeschooling experience.
During the first meeting on Friday, January 6, many homeschooling parents got the chance to meet-and-greet with each other for the first time. The meeting proved to be a success, as many laughs and smiles filled the conference room.
Each Friday at 10am, the children will be split into two different groups age-wise to do various age-related activities. Activities will include STEM, artistic expression projects, and LEGO building challenges, as well as various engineering simulations (e.g. earthquake structures). Additionally, the older-aged students may go up into the Teen Loft area upstairs to play video games and board games. Snacks will be provided each Friday for the gathering. However, parents are also encouraged to bring additional snacks as well.
Upcoming themed events on the Homeschool Fridays calendar are as follows: January 13th “Build Challenge,” January 20th “STEM,” and January 27th “Arts & Crafts.” Additionally, there is a Parent Group Chat available for parents to stay current on the ongoing library homeschooling events.
