Community members will have several opportunities to support Fixing the Boro this week -- and have some fun at the same time.

FTB co-founder Sarah Roehm explained that fundraising for the organization is divided into two sectors, with some efforts supporting the SNIP (low cost spay/neuter) clinic and some supporting the organization's animal rescue division.

The events this week will provide funds for both sides of the organization.

Bark Pong Tournament

FTB's first annual Bark Pong Tournament will be held at Nonna Picci on Wednesday, October 5, at 5:30pm. Ages 18 and up may play, and game cups will use water, making it a family-friendly event.

Online sign-ups will close tonight, but teams can also register at Nonna Picci beginning at 4:30pm on the day of the tournament. The cost to play is $15 per team registered in advance or $20 per team registered in-person, and this fundraiser will support FTB's rescue division.

Prizes include a hand-painted pong table and $50 Nonna gift card for first place, a $20 Nonna gift card for second place, and a $10 Nonna gift card and two metal FTB koozies for third place.

Wednesday will also be a percentage night for FTB at Nonna Picci, with proceeds from to-go and dine-in orders benefitting the organization.

Nonna Picci is located at 807 S. Main St., across from the Georgia Southern campus.

Fall Yard Sale

Fixing the Boro will also host its fall yard sale this weekend, from 8am to 2pm on Friday, October 7, and Saturday, October 8. The yard sale will raise money for the SNIP Clinic, so that employees can attend a necessary continuing education event in Jacksonville. Funds will help offset travel costs, which clinic employees often pay out of their own pockets.

The sale will be held outside of the clinic at 915 E. Inman St. (near Ogeechee Area Hospice) both days. Donations have been pouring in, and a variety of items including lots of furniture, toys, clothing, and decor will be available.

Donations are still being accepted up until the morning of each day of the sale. (FTB requests that you bring donations Thursday or day-of if possible, due to limited storage space prior to the sale.)

Adoptable dogs and cats will make an appearance from 10am to 2pm each day of the sale, as well. You can view FTB's adoptable pets here!

About Fixing the Boro

Fixing the Boro was started in the spring of 2017 by Sarah Roehm, Beth Stembridge, and Chris Sterling, originally as a group offering vouchers to local Statesboro vets. In 2018, they added a rescue side to their services.

Fixing The Boro’s mission is to provide low-cost sterilization to residents' pets of Bulloch County. We plan on offering the only humane and sustainable solution to the overpopulation of dogs and cats. We strive to maintain the highest level of assistance we can provide and ensure that our services are available to everyone who needs help with their personal pets.

The specific objectives and purpose of this organization shall be:

  1. Offer affordable solutions to spaying and neutering personal pets.
  2. Provide free spaying and neutering to people in need.
