For the 41st year the Portal Heritage Society hosted their Catface Turpentine Festival in downtown Portal, GA on Saturday, October 29, 2022. The festival celebrates the history of turpentine, and in many cases the community, at the historic E.C. Carter Turpentine Still.

The all day event included a parade through downtown which was live streamed by Grice Connect thanks to the support of Bulloch Solutions. The legendary, Mr. Farm Bureau, Bill T. Akers joined me in celebrating the Portal community with the parade coverage.

Bill and I would like to give a special thanks to Mayor Billy Boggs, Assistant City Clerk Linda Harrington, Chief Jason Sapp and Bulloch Solutions for helping make the parade coverage possible.

Dal Cannady, Bureau Chief for WTOC TV was the Grand Marshall of the parade.

Festival brings fun for everyone

According to Tim Cook, President of the Portal Heritage Society, they sold out of event space and the crowds were very strong throughout the day. This event serves as the primary fundraising event for the society. It also serves as a way to bring the community together annually.

The event included entertainment by area school children, food vendors, arts and crafts and carnival rides.
