Statesboro's great places to play: Visit Luetta Moore Park, pool, and splash pad

July is National Park and Recreation Month, and Statesboro has two newly revamped parks with playgrounds — including Luetta Moore Park, which also has a pool and splash pad! — that make amazing places to play this summer.

In 2021, the city and county hosted ribbon cuttings for Reverend W. D. Kent Park on Grady Street and Luetta Moore Park on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. While both parks were already in existence, they each received huge upgrades and renovations as part of a $4.5 million project, making them true assets to our community.

Since the parks went up with their brightly colored and impressive play structures, my kids have been asking to check them out, so visiting them both was on our summer “bucket list.” A lot of work went into revamping these parks, and it shows!

This is a multi-part series.

Luetta Moore Park, Pool, and Splash Pad

Luetta Moore Park is a long-standing asset to our community, but the renovations and new additions here are really impressive! You’ll see the awesome new playground from the street as soon as you drive by.

There is plenty of room here to spread out and play on the shaded, ADA-compliant playground, and it's friendly to lots of different age groups.

The main play structure includes lots of steps and platforms, as well as slides, climbing frames, a zipline, and other fun elements. My kids love how high you can climb within the play structure, and as a mom, I love that all of these areas are walled off and well-secured to prevent any falls.

There’s also a separate dome with ropes for climbing and a slide for coming down, as well as a bank of swings. There is an ADA-accessible swing and fun double swings that have a bucket seat on one side and a bench seat on the other.

My kids were most impressed with the zipline, because they thought it was so unique! There are low, easy to access platforms on each side of the zipline, so kids can take turns flying back and forth.

This playground has options to interest every kid! (You can watch a really cool video of the full playground design here.)

This park also has covered seating and grills, bathrooms in the community building nearby, security cameras, strong wi-fi, and plenty of parking for your convenience.

But the best part of visiting Luetta Moore Park in the summer is the new pool and splash pad! These are super affordable ways to cool off after playing, or they can be a destination all on their own.

The fee is only $3 per person per day, payable by card or cash, and that gets you access to both the pool and pad.

The splash pad area is great for toddlers or for older kids looking to play. There is no water base to the splash pad (it’s just a flat surface with the water features on top), so it feels safe for even the youngest citizens. There are fun fountains and buckets, and my kids said the water was nice and cool.

The pool area is awesome, as well. There are tons of lounge chairs and large sun shades over them all.

We loved that the pool was only 5 feet deep at its deepest part, with most of the pool being in the 3-4 foot range. This offered a lot of peace of mind as a parent, as did the watchful lifeguards. (Of course, you should always keep a close eye on your kids in the pool, no matter their swimming abilities, but these features helped it feel much safer overall.) There are also plenty of life jackets of varying sizes right at the entrance, and those are free to use.

The playground is open year-round, of course, but the pool and splash pad are such nice additions for the summer months!
