The Archibald Bulloch NSDAR Organization has three primary purposes: Education, Patriotism, and Historical Preservation. Each year, schools and the home-schooled community are contacted to invite students to participate in our contests.

Grades 5-8

Students in grades five through eight were invited to participate in the NSDAR American History Essay Contest. The topic this year was “The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier”. Students were invited to research the one hundred year history of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Chapter winners were: Lane Aaron, sixth grade; Matthew Payton Scarboro, seventh grade; and Hillary Nguyen, eighth grade. All three students attend Bulloch Academy.

JROTC Officers

The JROTC Officers at Statesboro High School, Southeast Bulloch High School, and Metter High School as well as the ROTC Officers at Georgia Southern University were asked to select a cadet who exhibited characteristics of leadership, patriotism, character, and high academic achievement to receive the DAR ROTC Awards. The student cadets who received these awards were: MS4 Cadet Willie Harris at Georgia Southern University; Cadet LTC Kaitlyn Dekle at Metter High School; Cadet Danelle (Ashley) Davis at Southeast Bulloch High School; and Cadet Marshall Mikell at Statesboro High School.

Good Citizen

Counselors at each high school were contacted to coordinate the selection of a DAR Good Citizen for their school. The Good Citizen is selected by the school’s faculty in cooperation with the senior class. Each Good Citizen must submit a school transcript, letters of recommendation, a resume of leadership and citizenship activities in the community, and also write an extemporaneous essay. Five high schools chose to participate and selected a Good Citizen. They were: Victoria Horton at Bulloch Academy; Allison Martin at Portal Middle High School; Katherine Muldrew at Southeast Bulloch High School; Trenton Toney at STEAM Academy; and Audrey Flattich at Trinity Christian School. Finally, an impartial committee selects the County Good Citizen, whose entry is forwarded for state competition. The Bulloch County Good Citizen was Audrey Flattich.

The members of the Archibald Bulloch Chapter, NSDAR congratulate these outstanding students and appreciate the support given to them by their teachers and parents. We know that they have bright futures ahead of them.
