Construction crews have began removing trees at the future home of Fred Fletcher Memorial Park on Lakeview Road at Jeff Road. The Statesboro-Bulloch Recreation Department completed a master plan for the park in 2010 to create a passive park.

The fletcher family gifted the 28 acre property to Bulloch County in 2007.

The initial work will create a parking lot for the park. The next phase will include natural walking trails around the lake and later pavilions will be added.

The brick home on the property which faces Lakeview will be renovated and used for camps and other activities lead by the Recreation Department. They also plan to expand the home to provide a large room for community events. The park is projected to be complete by Spring of 2023.

The Stirrup Some Fun Therapeutic Riding Program was located in the park. All of the horses are now housed at Mill Creek Equestrian Center and have been for a few months.

This recreation program provides children with disabilities or challenging life situation an opportunity to experience outdoor fun and recreation using horses as a tool to improve their lives.
