South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced a preseason schedule of six friendlies as it gears up for the 2022 USL League One season. Tormenta FC kicks off its preseason campaign on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. ET against Georgia Southern University at Erk Russell Park with ticket proceeds being donated to Safe Haven, Statesboro’s domestic violence shelter.

The League One squad will begin training on Monday, Feb. 14, in preparation for its upcoming friendlies and regular-season home opener on Apr. 2.

“It’s always important to organize relevant, physical matchups in preseason, as well as connect with college programs in our region,” Head Coach Ian Cameron commented. “The Georgia Southern connection is vitally important to our community, and we’re excited to share the field together on Feb. 19th.”

“The matchups with ATL United II and the Tampa Bay Rowdies will be stern tests where our signed players can assess their progress and potential trialists can showcase themselves against stiff competition,” Cameron said. “The month of March sees the MLS and USL Championship begin regular-season games, so UNF, my alma mater Mercer, and perennial DII powerhouse Young Harris will provide us the platform to sharpen up as we approach the season opener on Apr. 2 against North Carolina FC.”

On Wednesday, Feb. 16, Tormenta FC travels to Marietta, Georgia, to battle Atlanta United II at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Grounds for a closed-door friendly. The squad then heads to Florida to play the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday, Mar. 5, at Al Lang Stadium in a closed-door friendly where the team will test itself against a second USL Championship side.

The remaining preseason friendlies will be against three of the best NCAA men’s soccer programs in the nation: the University of North Florida, Mercer University and Young Harris College. Locations and times for the final three preseason matches are TBA.

Supporters should stay tuned for more player updates and club announcements in the coming weeks. Tormenta FC fans can now secure their seats at the new Tormenta Stadium opening in 2022.
