The service will also be live streamed on Grice Connect's facebook page.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and the crash of Flight 93.

The 9/11 Memorial Service will begin on Saturday, September 11th at 9:00 am in front of the Statesboro Fire Department headquarters on Grady Street.

The honor guards will have a procession from College Street to the fronts of the fire department and police department headquarters. They will lower the flags and the service will begin.

A member of the Bulloch County Fire Department will read the Fireman's prayer, a member of Bulloch County EMS will read the EMS prayer and a member of Georgia State patrol or Statesboro Police Department will read the Policeman's prayer.

GS Eagle Freedom has been invited to participate as well.

Cindy Hulsey from Joiner Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory and Bulloch Memorial Gardens will provide light refreshments after the ceremony.

SFD New York Native Kathleen O'Connor

For Statesboro Fire Department administrative assistant, Kathleen O'Connor, the 9/11 ceremony brings deep personal meaning. She is a native of New York and lived in the city the day of the attack.

Her cousin, Susan Ruggiero, worked for Marsh McLennan and was one of the 295 people from her company that was killed that day.

Two of O'Connor's brothers were on the job with the FDNY at the time and worked the pile.  They both had to retire from 9/11 related health issues.
