Candler County chase suspect in custody after 11 hour manhunt

Updated 09/30/21, 5:15 PM: Georgia State Patrol (GSP) and Candler County Sheriff's office have taken Anthony McQuarters, 28 the suspect from Wednesday nights car chase into custody around 8:30 am, Thursday, September 30. McQuarters was located in the area of the crash and was taken without incident.

Around 8:00 A.M. on 9/30/2021 Candler County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from someone in the search area that a suspicious person was observed. Candler County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Georgia State Patrol Trooper responded to the call. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Candler County Jail. Multiple weapons were recovered at the time of the arrest.

Stolen Car

As first reported on Grice Connect last night, the chase began when a GSP trooper identified the car as being stolen on I-16 east of Dublin. He attempted to stop the vehicle and a chase began.

The chase involved multiple agencies and ended at mile marker 97 on I-16 when troopers performed a pit maneuver and pushed the car off the road.

There were reports of shots being fired, but there have been no reports of injuries.

Driver fled into woods

The suspect, a black male wearing a white shirt and camo pants fled into a wooded area, south of I-16 toward Cool Springs Church road. The suspect was believed to be armed.

Multiple agencies began an intense manhunt involving helicopters, drones and tracking dogs. The manhunt continued throughout the night.

A suspect matching the description of the lookout for the manhunt was located and taken into custody around 8:30 AM without incident. He was in the Cool Springs Church road area.

There was also female in the suspects vehicle. She was transported to the Candler County Sherriff's office last night.
