Saturday, August 21, the Statesboro Youth Commission is hosting a Welcome Back to YOUR Park event from 11am-3pm at Luetta Moore Park

This event will highlight the newly renovated park, and offer youth ages 12 and up and their families the opportunity to receive a free COVID-19 vaccine.

Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE) will offer the Pfizer vaccine, approved for ages 12 and up, inside the Jones-Love Building.

Community partners such as Our Girls Rock Too!, Pink Huddle, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, and Youth Career Commission, Inc. will be on site with information on their youth serving programs.

The Statesboro Fire and Police Departments will also be at the event.

The Georgia Southern University Women’s Basketball Team will be on site to help distribute masks, as well.

“In light of the rising COVID numbers in our community, we are excited to be able to serve the youth of Statesboro and their families in this way, while highlighting the wonderful new park renovations. We worked with Mayor McCollar, City Council, the City Manager’s office, and community partners such as Squashing the Spread, to ensure we were able to serve the community safely," said Dr. Kristina Patterson, Co-chair of the Statesboro Youth Commission (Statesboro Community Youth Network).

"We look forward to welcoming the community to Luetta Moore Park and offering the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. We’ll even have the Georgia Southern University Women’s Basketball Team on site to help distribute masks to the community!”

Anyone age 12 and over is eligible to receive the vaccine from 11am-3pm. Youth under 18 will need parental consent, which can be provided on site or through a form available at: https://www.coreresponse.org/covid-19/atlanta-ga
