Public Reading of God’s Word on the Courthouse Lawn to Happen May 6 & 7

The Public Reading of God’s Word on the Courthouse Lawn is a Community Event scheduled for May 6 and 7.  Forty-three teams, which is made up of 2 to 8 readers, will be reading the entire New Testament during these two days, which includes over twenty-one hours of reading God’s Word almost consecutively.

On May 6, teams will read from 8:30 am -11:00 am and then continue reading from 1:30 pm- 9:00 pm.  The National Day of Prayer on May 6 is a separate event, but in the same area, on the Courthouse Lawn, from 12:00 noon-1:00 pm.  The New Testament reading will continue on May 7 from 8:30 am until 8:00 pm.

The first Public Reading of God’s Word was in May 2019 and was planned again for 2020 but canceled because of COVID-19. The purpose for this event is that God’s Word will to go forth as God intends and touch the listeners and readers hearts for good.  God promises that His Word will not return empty. God has a plan for everyone, a plan for good for those who have put their trust in Him.

This year, members from 28 area churches, an increase from 2019, will be reading which includes a little over 130 readers.  Two teams will be reading in memory of dear friends they have lost in recent months. One of the teams will be reading in memory of a former team member who read in May 2019.

Bring a lawn chair or just sit on a park bench and enjoy listening to God’s Word on the Courthouse lawn. You may even desire to bring your own Bible and follow along. Stay as long as you like and enjoy part of the day or evening.
