The Georgia Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world’s largest non-profit health organization dedicated to finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for all blood cancer patients has announced that the SACK Company has joined LLS’s 2019 Statesboro Light The Night®, as the Presenting Sponsor. Light The Night, an annual fundraising event, will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the RAC on campus at Georgia Southern University.  This is the inaugural event for Statesboro.

Light The Night is a fundraising campaign benefiting LLS and their funding of research to find blood cancer cures. Coming together for a common goal, friends, family and co-workers form fundraising walk teams. Millions of consumers also help by donating at retail outlets. Culminating in inspiration and memorable evening walks every fall, participants in 140 communities across North America join together carrying illuminated lanterns to take steps to end cancer – white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer.

“We’re thrilled to have SACK Company as a sponsor for our first ever Statesboro Light The Night,” said, Lauren Mathews, Campaign Manager at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “We appreciate their generosity and are grateful for their commitment to help make this year’s Light The Night the best yet. We are taking steps to end cancer.”

Statesboro blood cancer survivors Raina Chance and Katherine Welch serve on the committee and are very involved in launching the event here in Statesboro.

“Without research and the funding that The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society provides, I would not be here today sharing my story with my community”, said Katherine Welch.  “We owe a special thanks to our presenting sponsor: SACK Company, community sponsors: BBWH Insurers, SunCatcher Shutters & Blinds and route sponsors: Statesboro Real Estate/PMG Rentals, Wise Choice Realty, and more!”

LLS was founded by a family for families, beginning 70 years ago at a time when a diagnosis of leukemia was nearly 100% fatal. Now, with the development of new treatments for childhood leukemia, to today’s advances in precision medicine and immunotherapy, LLS has had a colossal impact on advancing cancer cures, and changing the way cancer is treated and the care for patients.

Through its efforts it has invested nearly $1.3 billion in cutting-edge research to advance therapies. Thanks to research, survival rates for patients with many blood cancers have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled since the early 1960s. Yet, despite these advances, about one third of

patients with blood cancer still do not survive even five years after their diagnosis.

To form a team or to learn more, please call the LLS office at (912) 436-3274 or visit www.lightthenight.org/events/Statesboro.

The local committee has an exciting evening planned with a goal of bringing light to the darkness of cancer.  Here are a few of the activities planed:

LANTERNS

Light The Night lanterns are the symbol of the event and all the ways they are working together to fight cancer. Every registered participant will receive a lantern: gold in memory of those they have lost, white for survivors and patients and red for supporters of their mission. Be sure to pick up your lantern before the new Opening Ceremony begins, as you’ll be a part of the ceremony’s finale! The Opening Ceremony begins at 7:30pm at the stage. All participants should be in view of the stage at that time. If you are bringing friends and family, be sure to get them registered before Saturday so they can get a lantern too! To get them registered, visit LightTheNight.org! Note: Kids do not have to register for LTN to receive a lantern. They will have a registration table at the event but register ahead of time to avoid the line!

SURVIVORS

During a special moment in the new Opening Ceremony, survivors will be asked to move toward the center of our community with their white lanterns, where a special Circle of Survivors will be positioned.

They will recognize as many survivors as possible during the ceremony, so if you are a survivor please click on https://www.llsform.org/0030FS01/form43/index.html and tell us them YOU Light The Night.

REMEMBRANCE PAVILION

They encourage all participants to join then in the Remembrance Pavilion, a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come and how much work is left to be done. The Remembrance Pavilion will be open to everyone during all hours of the event (except during the Opening Ceremony). The pavilion is a multimedia experience where you’ll be able to spend some quiet moments thinking about those we’ve lost but also connect with your fellow participants in a powerful way. Be sure to bring photos of anyone you’d like to honor to place on our Remembrance Boards and we’ll have markers and paper for you to leave your messages of hope and remembrance.

AFTER PARTY!

They have got a fantastic Official After Party in the works! Join them at Gnat’s Landing after the walk for live music beginning at 9pm!
