Bulloch County Public Safety are reporting trees down all over the county impacting power due to high winds from Hurricane Helene.

At 5:00 am, out of 43,370 power customers in Bulloch County more than 30,000 are without power. Citizens can expect extended power outages due to the massive amount of damage and large number of customers without power.

Excelsior EMC is currently experiencing widespread outages, with just under 20,000 members out of power—this is about 80% of their system. Please be aware that this number may increase over the course of the day as the storm continues to affect our area.

The damage to their system is severe, and restoration will be a significant effort for their team, as well as those assisting us from other areas. They are working diligently to assess the damage so restoration can be as efficient as possible.

Cick here to view Excelsior EMC's Facebook page.  They will be continuing to update this page with the latest information. They are asking for patience and understanding during this challenging time.

Widespread power outages are being reported across the area. Please see outage maps with estimated restoration times below.

How to Handle Down/Out Traffic Lights

Please use extreme caution and travel only if necessary during this time. IF you must travel and encounter a traffic light that is out, TREAT IT LIKE A 4-WAY STOP.

From the Georgia Department of Driver Services:

  • If a traffic signal is not functioning at all at an intersection, all drivers must treat the intersection as if a stop sign is posted for all directions.
  • If a traffic signal is malfunctioning and flashing, drivers must proceed based on the color of the flashing signal they are facing: if the driver is facing a yellow flashing signal, the driver may proceed with caution; if the driver is facing a red flashing signal, the driver must stop and wait until it is safe to proceed.
