Three Eagles finish top-5 as women’s golf claims Valspar Augusta Invitational title

The Georgia Southern women's golf team clinched victory at the Valspar Augusta Invitational, dominating the field despite a final round cancellation due to weather.

The trio of Mary Miller, Louise Reau, and LoraLie Cowart finished inside the top-5 as Georgia Southern women's golf claimed the team title at the Valspar Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club on Sunday. 

Due to weather conditions in Augusta, the final round was canceled on Sunday and the Eagles led after two rounds to earn the victory. Georgia Southern finished at 6-over par 582 (290-292) to lead the 13-team field. The win marks the third of the season for the Eagles. 

Mary Miller posted a Georgia Southern career best finish taking second place after shooting an even or under par in each round. Miller got off to a hot start firing a 2-under 70 in the first round tallying two birdies and was bogey-free in the round. The freshman chipped in her first eagle of the season on hole nine in the second as she shot even. The 2-under 70 marks her fourth tournament at par or better while shooting nine rounds at even or under par this season. 

Louise Reau and LoraLie Cowart tied for fifth shooting 1-over in the two rounds. Reau shot an even par in the first round carding three birdies and was bogey-free on the back nine before shooting a 73 in the second adding three more birdies. The even par round marks her team leading 12th round at par or better. Reau's top-5 finish marks her fourth of the season. 

Cowart shot 1-over in the first round before using her tournament best even par in the second. Cowart's top-5 finish marks her second of the season. The senior tallied four birdies in the tournament and now has seven rounds at par or better on the season. Cowart finished second in total pars with 27. 

Kelsey Chen finished inside the top-20 at 18th shooting 6-over 150 (75-75) including a tournament high nine birdies. Abbey Schimpf finished T43 shooting 12-over with four birdies. 

Drive Tunwannarux finished in a tie for 12th after using a season best 2-under second round. The sophomore used four birdies and two bogeys in the round to move up the leaderboard. Tunwannarux led the field in par 5 scoring (4.50). 

Georgia Southern led the field in birdies (28), par 4 scoring (4.13), par 5 scoring (4.80).
