Statesboro swim club members qualify for state championship

Three athletes from Statesboro’s Southern Eagle Aquatics (SEGA) swim club team recently qualified for the Georgia Swimming 14-and-under age group at the state and junior state (JS) championship meet.

The meet was held July 14 to 16 at Georgia Tech with almost 1,000 qualifying swimmers from across the state in attendance.

Jada Fedrick, 12, competed in five state events and three JS events earning a first place finish in the 11-12 Girls 200M JS Breast (3:30.72), as well as 12th in the 11-12 Girls 100M Free (1:19.08), and achieving 18th place overall in Georgia for 11-12 Girls 50M Breast (41.87).

Kenny Griffith, 13, competed in six events, four state events and two JS events. He earned personal best times in five of six events: 100M FLY(1:09.28), 200M Free (2:22.30), 100M Free (1:04.42) and 50M Free JS (29.19). Kenny also earned best time and a 27th place overall in Georgia for 13-14 Boys 200M FLY (2:39.81).

Ethan Swanson, 13, competed in eight JS events achieving personal best times in six events and winning first place 13-14 Boys 200M JS Back (2:39.25), third place 13-14 Boys 100M JS Back (1:14.55), fourth place 13-14 Boys 200M JS Free (2:22.72), and sixth place 13-14 Boys 200M JS Individual Medley (2:43.53).

The meet is sponsored by the Georgia Swimming Committee, a division of USA Swimming, the governing body for competitive swimming in the U.S. Olympic Movement. The semi-annual meet is held once in February, contested in a 25-yard pool, and once in July, contested in a 50-meter pool.

SEGA is a registered, certified team within USA Swimming, offering learn to swim lessons and competitive swimming opportunities for youth and adults in Bulloch and surrounding counties.

The Southern Georgia Aquatic Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 2022 to govern SEGA Team. SEGA Swim Team promotes sportsmanship, character, and excellence for individuals in competitive swimming and provides swim education from youth through adulthood.

Practices are held at Splash in the Boro Aquatic Pool and offered all year. SEGA is actively seeking new members. Free tryouts are available. For more information, click here
