Senior swim and diving athlete, Olivia Stewart, officially signed with Auburn’s swimming and diving ths past Tuesday evening in Statesboro High School’s Media Center surrounded by friends and family.
“I’m excited to get to college and work hard,” Stewart said.
During her recruitment process, Stewart went to visit other schools such as Ohio State and LSU, but no place was better than Auburn for her.
“When I went to Auburn, I kind of just knew that’s where I wanted to be within the first couple of hours of being there,” she said. “It just felt a lot like home. The campus is a little bit smaller, but it still feels really big. I loved the people, loved the girls, loved the coaches. It was just great and I’m excited to be there.”
Of course Olivia isn’t the only person excited. Her coach, Greg Gillette, had many great things to say about her as well. Olivia had to travel to and from Augusta everyday to attend practices and meets.
“It took a special level of commitment and desire,” Gillette said. “I’m very excited to see what she can do at the next level and I know her teammates are excited as well.”
He talked about how wonderful her family and how dedicated they were to making sure Olivia was at practice everyday. Olivia had to travel to and from Augusta everyday to attend practices and meets.
“It wasn’t a situation you’d expect to work, but they made it work and the results speak for themselves.” Gillette said.
Olivia didn’t only have one coach, her mom Beth Stewart had a lot to say about her daughter and athlete.
“Proud is an understatement of course,” Beth said. “As her swim coach, she’s a goal setter and it’s very fun to watch her. I’m super proud of her.”
