In a closely contested match, South Georgia Tormenta FC and NC Courage U23 ended with a 1-1 draw on Sunday, May 19 in Cary, North Carolina.

The match wasted no time to find its footing. NC Courage opened scoring in just the second minute of play. South Georgia immediately responded to this opening goal as Dara Russo sent a shot sailing past the Courage’s keeper, equalizing the match. These two early goals were the only converted attempts of the night.

After these early goals, South Georgia remained focused on applying pressure forward to the Courage’s back line but did not find any major scoring opportunities for the remainder of the first half.

South Georgia’s keeper Cora Brendle made several acrobatic saves to prevent any additional goal scoring from the Courage. Notably in the 44th minute, Brendle made a diving save to maintain the score entering the second half.

In the second half, South Georgia struggled to maintain possession for long stints of time with the Courage making several attempted shots on goal. These attempts were skillfully handled with clearances and strong defensive plays by Tormenta’s defensive line and keeper.

Tormenta’s last scoring opportunity came in the 90th minute when Ashley Henderson attempted to send a header into the net, but the ball flew just over the crossbar.
