PORTAL – Portal Middle High has had a dominant year in sports, and to finish out the 2023-2024 school year the Panthers decided to add three more athletic scholarship signees to the list of future college athletes.
East Georgia State College has had some great success in their women’s basketball program this past year coming off a 23-4 overall win season and becoming the 2024 GCAA Champions.
Adding to that new upcoming roster, the Bobcats have acquired senior Panther athletes, Tiara Kingsberry and Glendia Lowe. Both these ladies have had an amazing senior year at Portal Middle High helping to lead their team to a (12-16,5-3) overall record for the 2023-2024 season which was the best season the Lady Panthers have had in a while.
When asked about how they feel and what they’ve learned both the ladies couldn’t hold their excitement about their future endeavours.
“I feel good about going to East Georgia,” Kingsberry said. “I’ll be on a team with somebody I know already and we already have great chemistry.”
“The chemistry is still going to be there, and I feel like it’s good to take somebody you know,” Lowe said.
Both ladies played at least 14 games this past season and in those games, Kingsberry scored about five points per game, made at least three rebounds, one assist, and one steal per game. Lowe had about seven points per game with about 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and three steals per game.
Both ladies hope to go to this next level and showcase not only their basketball skills but their leadership skills as well.
“I learned to be more of a leader here at Portal, and I hope to take that with me and not fall into the background,” Lowe stated.
I learned that I have to start doing things outside of my comfort zone and learn different things to take more of a bigger role. I’m glad I got another opportunity from East Georgia to prove that I can take on more of a leadership role,” Kingsberry stated.
On the men’s side of things is a little different. The East Georgia Men’s Basketball has acquired senior Panther athlete, Marion Tremble to add some new dynamic to the Bobcats. Tremble was known for being somewhat of a silent killer on the team. Playing that forward position, Tremble was one of the most consistent players on the team.
During his senior season, Tremble played 29 games in his senior season. In that season, Tremble played 24.8 minutes per game scoring approximately 10 points per game with about six rebounds per game, 2 assists per game, one steal per game, and one block per game.
Overall Tremble played 719 minutes scoring 286 points. He attempted 272 field goals making 120 which means out of a 47 attempted field goal percentage, he made at least 44 percent.
Tremble had a dominant senior season and is excited to be able to go and grow his skill set at the next level.
“I feel like me putting in work in the off-season and during the season is what set me up for this moment,” Tremble said. “That’s a good thing and the coaches realize what I can bring to the team.”
An honorable mention also at this signing was senior Sarah Logan Finch who signed a letter of intent to participate in the marching band at the next level at Augusta University.
