The Georgia Southern baseball team took down the Jacksonville Dolphins 13-2 in seven innings on May 8 to improve to 27-21 on the season, dropping the Dolphins to 22-25 and handing them their fifth-straight loss.

Southern started fast and furious, as Josh Tate took the very first pitch of the game over the 15-foot wall in left field for his first home run as an Eagle, his second of his career. After Kent Schmidt knocked a single to reach, Jarrett Brown hit a homer to the same spot as Tate to bring the Eagles lead up to 3-0 after the first inning.

The Eagles then scored five in the top of the second inning, started with Tate's bases-loaded walk to plate Sean Smith. Schmidt's two-run double scored T.J. McKenzie and Cade Parker, then a Brown RBI-single plated Tate for a 7-0 lead. JD Kaiser knocked a sac fly to right field to bring the lead up to 8-0 after three half-innings.

Jacksonville would plate the next two runs, starting in the home-half of the second inning with a Will Gale RBI-single, scoring Ty Hinrikus. In the bottom of the third inning, the Dolphins cut the lead to six runs when Hinrikus singled to center field to score Tyler Brewer.

Southern scored four in the top of the fifth starting with Smith's second homer in the Blue and White, extending the lead back to seven. Schmidt hit his second double of the game to bring home McKenzie, then Brown earned his 10th-career triple to plate Tate and Schmidt, moving him to fifth all-time in program history with 10 triples.

White continued the scoring into the top of the sixth, plating pinch hitter Daniel Haab on a line-out sac fly to center field, putting the Eagles up 11 runs at 13-2.

Ga'von Wray earned his first victory of the season with two innings of two-run ball, lowering his season ERA to 5.42. JU starter Logan Jones took the loss after getting tagged for eight runs, seven earned, in just one inning of action.

Jarrett Brown led the Eagles offensively after a 4-for-5 night, which was a double shy of Georgia Southern's first cycle since 2021. He also ended the night with five RBI.
