GAME PREVIEW: Eagles wrap up regular season with rivalry game

Rivals Georgia Southern and App State will battle in Paulson this weekend. Kickoff is set for 6:02pm.

The Georgia Southern football team returns home for Senior Day and a chance to win the Sun Belt East when it hosts rival App State on Saturday at Allen E. Paulson Stadium/Evans Family Field. Kickoff is set for 6:02 p.m. and will be carried by ESPN+ and streamed on the ESPN app. The game will also be available via radio on the Georgia Southern Sports Network. Here's all you need to know about the game:

  • Georgia Southern and App State have met 39 previous times with the Mountaineers holding a 22-16-1 lead in a series that dates back to 1932. This is the fifth straight year the two have ended the regular season playing.
  • The Eagles hold an 11-7 lead over App State in games played in Statesboro after winning three of the past five played at home. The last time the two teams met at Paulson Stadium was in 2022 when the Eagles won 51-48 in double overtime.
  • The two schools battled as members of the Southern Conference from 1993-2013. The teams have played every year since 1993, including twice in 2001. The 39 games played makes App Georgia Southern's most-played opponent in program history.
  • Georgia Southern and App State combined to win nine FCS (I-AA) national championships.
  • Georgia Southern wins the Sun Belt East Division with a victory over App State and a loss by Marshall at James Madison (8 PM). App State clinches bowl eligibility with a win.
