TODAY is a day that will go down in MY history book in Statesboro, Georgia.
I have been anxiously awaiting a time when we can shout ‘HOORAY,’ and TODAY it happened and I am THRILLED!! Want to LEARN more and ENJOY and GAIN knowledge and have FUN??
WELLL.. You can with a NO CHARGE ticket. I’M SOOOO EXCITED!!!
Statesboro- Bulloch County Library MEETS and CONNECTS with Statesboro Summit Apartments
The Statesboro Summit Apartments had a REAL need!! The Statesboro-Bulloch County Library has an amazing SUPPLY of materials, staff, and other assets that can be drawn on to MEET that need. WHAT A MATCH!!!!!
Caroline Johnson, Manager of the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library and April Smith, Social Service Coordinator from Statesboro Summit Apartments, are THRILLED that they can be a BENEFIT to each other and the community.
To elaborate more on this topic, the Library has an AMAZING amount of resources and programs, as indicated on their monthly calendar. These events include not just reading and book lending but Adult Crafts, computer/technology training (Laptop, Desktop, iPad and Cell Phone (Apple or Android), knit or crochet, Senior Socializing Hour, Genealogy, Blood Drives, and a few other intellectual and not so intellectual programs. Game events including Bingo, Chess, and Adult Storytelling and Book Clubs, are just a few NEW areas of interest to be added to the Library’s calendar of events.
In addition, the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library has a ‘Programming Van' that visits locations and has set up for Books, Book Lending and Adults Crafts -- whatever you may desire. On the personal side, they frequently give books away, have inspirational programs like Storytelling, Garden Club, Computer Classes, and MUCH more. The staff at the Library are always putting on their ‘THINKING CAPS’ to make things better for the residents of Statesboro and Bulloch County.
Caroline Johnson informed me they have an Outreach Program. The library can HOST field trips TO and FROM the library, nonprofit organizations, and commercial businesses. Facilities they serve include Nursing Homes, Affordable Living Residences, Homebound individuals, Schools and Day Cares. ALL are accessible to this program. Just let ‘the Library’ know your needs, and they will try to accommodate you. ALL you need to do is CALL and INQUIRE!!!
CONNECTING and NETWORKING is HUGE for the Library and here is where MY excitement BEGINS.
Statesboro Summit Apartments, an Affordable Living Residence has a HUGE need for outside resources for their residents. After our brief introduction at the Library, Caroline, April and I realized we had a MATCH. Common ground! A MARRIAGE so to speak, from which both the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library and the Statesboro Summit Apartment residents might BENEFIT!!
Unfortunately, transportation is sometimes an issue with the Statesboro Summit residents, however, they have a Community Room that is equipped with the necessities for incoming visitors and programs that can accommodate scheduled events.
The Library is thrilled that they can have access, especially NOW when the outside is less than acceptable for an outside program. Statesboro Summit Apartments has two covered gazebo areas, three leisure swings, picnic tables, and seating for outside events and activities. In the past, they have held Easter egg hunts, community health fairs, carnivals and other fun activities, and there is also a garden with benches and seating that the ‘Programming Van’ will be able to visit when the weather is more cooperative..WHAT FUN will that be!!
Caroline Johnson said, “The library can HOST field trips. We have had trips for Statesboro and Bulloch County businesses like ‘action pact’, The Gardens Senior Living, Bulloch County Recreation Department, Day Cares and several other places. We can also go out to the community businesses or organizations to provide programming or informative tabling about Library Services.”
You can request a field trip on their website, see the link, or contact the library at [email protected].
April Smith, Social Service Coordinator of Statesboro Summit Apartments, left the library excited to share this information and the new found opportunities with the residents. After a brief discussion of the library outreach program, April informed me of their excitement and appreciation for this partnership and can not wait to see what comes. She said, “We really appreciate this opportunity to increase our residents' ability to acquire NEW and DESIRED RESOURCES. They are truly excited about this partnership.”
