Celebrating three decades of dedication and hard work is a remarkable achievement! Southern Manor Senior Living in Statesboro recently had the honor and privilege to recognize Ruth Ann Newton, Day Shift Supervisor, for her anniversary of 30 years of service.

Ralph Cowart, CEO Southern Manor shared, “Thirty years is a long time to do anything, especially work with the elderly. Ruth Ann has done just that. She has done so with the light and the love of Jesus on her face daily. She comes in on days when no other would show up, working long past time to leave. I cannot thank her enough for all the years of dedication, service and love.”

Ruth Ann is known for her "non-complaining" attitude, and beyond that, she has been an all-around great employee that possesses a combination of skills, character traits, and qualities that make her invaluable to the Southern Manor team. Ruth Ann has maintained a sense of optimism and resilience throughout her career, attributing her good work ethic to her parents.

Kristy D. Shuman, LAL, Executive Director at Southern Manor, added, “Ruth Ann's work ethic is like her attitude: consistent, pleasant, and joyful. She is loved for her care, devotion to the residents and their families and truly enjoys caring for the elderly, shown in every aspect of her work."

In recognition of her thirty years, Cowart generously gifted Ruth Ann with the car of her dreams: a Mercedes Benz! (This is not the first time he's done this, either! Luvirn Oglesby received a Lincoln Town Car for her 30th Anniversary. Oglesby is currently working with Southern Manor in a part time position.)

Presenting the keys to Ruth Ann, Cowart said, “Thank you for staying with us and most of all for showing love to the residents that have come through our doors all these years. Enjoy your new car! I love you more than words can say.”

“He surprised and tricked me!” she exclaimed, “I knew I would get a car, maybe a Toyota or Chevrolet, in 6 months. I love my Mercedes Benz. It is a luxury car, and I love the color, the interior (leather) and ALL the gadgets. I will learn to operate them. I'm still on ‘Cloud 9!'”

Cowart gave her the keys saying, "Go get your car!"

”I thank God for using Ralph, a good-hearted man, to bless me," RuthAnn said, lovingly. "Thank you Ralph, for being my Boss!”

Ruth Ann is a mother of two, Jacqueline and Jerrell, with 9 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She has lived in Metter since 1979 and commutes to Southern Manor in Statesboro daily.

She is a Medical Assistant graduate of Ogeechee Tech, where she made the President’s List (4.0 GPA). When she was hired at Southern Manor, she worked the night shift for 10 years (7pm-7am) and was then promoted to days (7am-7pm). Now, she serves as Day Shift Supervisor (7am-3pm).

Blake Nobles, Administrator Southern Manor Candler, said, “Ruth Ann is pure and authentic in her work. She exudes integrity with everything she does, and whenever faced with a difficult situation, she responds with softness and genuineness. That always improves the situation.”

Newton added, “I do it all -- wherever and whatever is needed. My advice to be successful is hard work, patience, keep your composure, service with a smile, be dedicated, and have a positive attitude.”

Ruth Ann shared that when she started at Southern Manor, there were only 18-24 residents, and they didn't have computers, which she later had to learn. Now, there are closer to 50 residents. The one thing that hasn't changed is RuthAnn's love for her job.

“What I love BEST about my job: it's a ‘calling’ for me to care for the residents as I would my parents or grandparents. Secondly, my boss, Ralph Cowart is the BEST. He is respectful and has a heart for all his employees and the residents."

Congratulations, Ruth Ann! Enjoy many happy miles of luxurious driving for the many smiles you have shared through the years. Keep shining your light and spreading happiness!
