June 26, 1961 - October 10, 2024

Steven Mock, 63, of Sylvania, GA, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, at Memorial Health University Medical Center, surrounded by his immediate family.

Born to the late G. David and Hazel Smith Mock, Steve spent much of his life in Savannah, Georgia, graduating from Georgia State University. When he moved to Sylvania with his wife and daughters in 2002, Steve quickly became a well-loved member of the community.

Over the years, Steve worked in several roles at Donna’s Bakery, Corner Cupboard antique store, the Screven County Development Authority, and Moats Grocery Store. In Savannah, he was the Chief Administrative Officer for the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force upon opening in 1996, an executive coordinator, realtor and more. No matter the role, he was always the welcoming, smiling face that everyone encountered.

Not only was Steve known for his jovial demeanor, he was also well known for his exceptional cooking and baking skills. Food was his ‘love language’ and one of the ways that he expressed his care for family, friends, and neighbors. Whether it was during holidays or simply when someone had a need, Steve often provided a meal or a batch of his signature cookies and sweets, made with his own personal touch.

He was a loving husband and father, and recently took on his favorite role: Grandpa. Steve was happiest when spending time with his family, offering guidance and words of encouragement when needed most. Those closest to him will remember him for his kindness, generosity, and good heart.

Steve was a dedicated member of Sylvania First Baptist Church, serving several years as the President of the Choir.

He is preceded in death by his parents, G. David Mock and Hazel Smith Mock. Steve is survived by his wife, Terry Mock of Sylvania, his daughters, Madelyn Ihnen and Deanna Houston, his sons-in-law, Anthony Ihnen and Judson Houston, and his grandson, Alister Ihnen. He is also survived by his siblings, Jan M. and Rollin Isbell of Jacksonville, FL, and Debra M. and Tony Edenfield of Pulaski, GA, as well as his aunt and uncles, Glenda S. Armstrong of Sylvania, Danny Smith of Sylvania, and Bill Smith of Louisville, GA.

A memorial service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Sylvania, GA. Visitation begins at 2pm.

In honor of his memory, the family asks that you share a meal with someone you love or pass on a smile to a stranger—just as Steve would have done.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances to 88.3 WAFJ at https://www.wafj.com/partners/listener-support/ or by mail at WAFJ Donor Relations, 6469 Parkland Dr., Sarasota, FL 34243.
