January 17, 1929 ~ February 14, 2025 (age 96)

96 years ago the Grace of God allowed Henry “Nick” Cooper and Mary Stewart Cooper to birth Rosa Lee Cooper on January 17, 1929.

Rosa Lee compassionately known as Rosie, Aunt Rosa Lee, Grandma Rosa Lee, Ma Rose, Mother Moss and Ma was the fifth of seven children being the last surviving of Mary’s Children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Henry D, Georgia Mae, Marcus C “MC”, Printis, Sadie Mae, Elize, Lewis; her husband David; three children Eddie, Robert Lee, Emma and her beloved Bishop James C. Hagan Sr. Rosa Lee was favored by God as she journeyed through life after only completing grade school up to grade 3 but that did not stop her love of counting money. She was raised in Hagan, GA but later relocated to Belleville, Statesboro and other surrounding city following her brothers but later married Coy Kennedy with three children born to this union; she later met and married David Moss, Sr from Cochran, GA with four born of this union.

During her life, Rosa Lee moved and resided in several parts of Florida and in Bellville until she settled in her childhood home of Hagan, GA to rear her nine children as Robert was residing in New York. After the passing of her husband David, Rosa Lee remained faithful to her Christian roots attending several different churches with no home. As the year went by, she gained the title of Mother Moss when she met Elder Hagans “as she called him” and Sister Julie “at the time” to introduce them to her family and become one of the foundation members of Hagan Temple where she served faithfully until her health declined. She was known to have been at “The Party” hosted by her daughter, the late Evang Emma Allen, that would launch the ministry with the original name of Hagan Temple Church of God in Christ Holiness unto the Lord in the 1980s.

Mother Moss was loved by her family, church family and community beyond measure. She was a retiree from the Claxton Chicken Poultry where she gained friends and witness to many about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Mother Moss loved children and took pride in being surrounded by her family and making them laugh. She loved gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting and most of all being in the house of the Lord. Most times Mother Moss walked to church even up into her 80’s if she did not have a ride because she never learned to drive and did not want to miss service. She was a faithful in tithing and known for doing her “little bounce” across the floor during service and at offering time.

Mother Moss will be greatly missed upon her church family and community but most of all by those who cherish her memories daily. Her sister Johnnie Mae Hughes (James); Sons Levi(Christy) Kennedy, Larry(Lisa) Kennedy, William Kennedy, David Moss, Warnell Moss; Daughters Marie Richardson, Deloris(Alfred) Walden, Rosetta Lecounte; 26 Grandchildren; 60+ Great Grandchildren; 16+ Great Great Grandchildren; a host of niece, nephews and friends and church family. Special Thanks to her Primary Caregiver, Lois and Gentiva Hospice for the staffs care and compassion.
