BROOKLET: Marjorie Eloise Fender Nessmith, 86, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. She went peacefully as a southern lady would with her daughter Kathy by her side.
She was one of seven children born to Marven and Janie Fender in Clinch County, Georgia.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Don Nessmith of Brooklet, Georgia. Her daughter, Kathy Wesley of Statesboro, Georgia, her son Roy Pittman of North Georgia. Her brother Dub (Wenda) Fender of Blackshear, Georgia, her sister, Nell Royals of Lakeland, Georgia. She was predeceased by her parents, her son Ray Pittman, brothers and sisters-in-law Donald, Edward (Wilma), Ira (Margie), Ivy (Alverna) Fender, and brother-in-law Darrell Royals. She has seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews.
Eloise moved to Statesboro in 1978 and made her home here for the last 47 years. She was a popular server at Franklin's Restaurant for 18 years. After retiring from serving, she went on to help many families as a caregiver. Her sense of humor was amazing as was her sense of style. Shoes and purses were always her favorites. She loved gardening and plants and could root about anything including a broomstick. She hated putting gas in her car and would often say that she was riding on a wing and prayer or riding on imagination. She was a true southern cook and her fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, 15-layer jelly cakes, and pound cakes were the best.
A private burial service was held on Thursday, January 9, 2025. A memorial service will be held at a later date
