Mr. Jimmy Milton Parker, 90, passed on February 19, 2023 at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center.

Jimmy was born in Sardis, GA to the late Millard Matthew and Marian Rackley Parker. He graduated from the Sardis Girard Alexander School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. Jimmy's unit was trained to deploy to Korea in support of the war effort. While en route, his unit was reassigned to Ft. Richardson in Alaska, as the Alaskan Security Force. His unit operated in mountain terrain under adverse conditions between 30 and 40 below 0 tempartures. They conducted a major role in the defense of North America during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged he returned to southeast Georgia and was an entrepreneur having operated many business, including a home for disabled veterans. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed building birdhouses, raising quail, and cooking bar-b-que, brunswick and catfish stews for Spring Island. He lived a full life and enjoyed long walks with his pup, Pistol.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Mickey Parker, Sybil R. Jenkins, Willie Alice Mills, and Betty Parker Robinson, and son, Jimmy Milton Parker, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Janie Parker; daughters, Wanda (Earl) Beard, Sheila (James) Snow, Sharon (Lowell) Hagan, Nancy (Shermon) Davis, Cyndie Parker, Jan (Paul) Knoblich, Deborah (David) Vaughan; son, Matt Parker; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 in the Screven Chapel of Joiner Anderson Funeral Home at 2:00pm with Justin Brannen officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jason Beard, Trenton Beard, Michael Snow, Randy Edenfield, Jr., Reid Edenfield, Derrick Parker, Brent Parker, Blan Cope, and Mike Chandler.
