December 17, 1930 - September 7, 2023 - Deacon James “Boy” Prince, age 92 transitioned from this earthly home to be with the Lord on Thursday, afternoon September 7, 2023 at Select Specialty Hospital, Savannah, Georgia.
Deacon Prince, Boy Prince, as he was known most of his life was a native of Bulloch County where he attended public school. At an early age he was baptized at the Thomas Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend M. F. Fye, later serving on the board of deacons. In 1997 after the formation of the Agape Worship Center he joined Agape under the leadership of the founder Bishop Anthony Chavers where he served as chairman of the board of deacons until retiring to chairman emeritus. He was a United States Veteran and was last employed by Bulloch County Board of Education in the maintenance department.
Deacon Prince was an avid fisherman and craftsman. He loved God, his family and God’s people.
He will be sorely missed by his family which includes his wife, Reverend Sarah Prince; his children, Shirley Odom-Barnes, Shelia (Sam) Harden, Celentria Prince-Young, Connie Key, Dawn Prince-Mainer, Rosa Ann Mercer and Cameron (Patricia) Prince all of Statesboro, James “Jamie” (Patricia) Prince, Hyde Park, MA and Shelton (Lakisha) Prince, Lynn, MA, Rayna Lowery, Elizabeth, NJ, Renard (Katrina) McClouden, Valdosta, GA, and Alvia Prince, Gray GA; bonus son Chris Boyd, Statesboro; one sister, Amy Prince, Statesboro; three aunts, Alice Catherine (Willie) Long and Margaret Harris both of Ft. Pierce, FL and Cookie Prince, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; one uncle Generett (Jeanette) Prince also of Ft. Pierce, FL; forty (40) grandchildren, one hundred seven (107) great grandchildren and fifteen (15) great-great-grandchildren; a host of in laws, cousins and friends.
Home Going Services for Deacon Prince will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Original First African Baptist Church with Elder Donald Chavers, eulogist and Bishop Anthony Chavers, presiding. The Reverend Christopher Culberth is the pastor. Earthly resting place, Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday evening, September 15, 2023 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Agape Worship Center. Public viewing will also take place from 1-5:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
