On Monday morning, January 27, 2025, two individuals were found dead at an apartment complex in Statesboro.

Statesboro Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a call at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025, at an apartment complex located in the 300 block of South Zetterower Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered two deceased individuals from gunshot wounds and the scene was secured pending issuance of a search warrant.

Detectives processed the scene for most of the day and interviewed several persons familiar with the decedents, identified as Dacaris Carr (22, Statesboro) and Maneia Stephens (17, Goodwater, AL).  Detectives were able to establish that there was a preexisting relationship between Carr and Stephens.

The bodies of Carr and Stephens will be transported to the GBI’s Coastal Regional Crime Lab for autopsy.  At this time the evidence suggests that no other parties were involved in the incident and that there are no outstanding suspects.

A final determination of the cause and manner of the deaths will be established by the Crime Lab after autopsies are performed.
