The Teal House welcomes Dr. Chelsea Mikell as new Medical Director

The Teal House recently announced that Dr. Chelsea Mikell will be stepping into the role of Medical Director following Dr. James Hiller, who has served in this vital role since 2013.

The Teal House in Statesboro has announced Dr. Chelsea J. Mikell, MD, FACOG, as its new medical director. She takes the place of Dr. James Hiller as his term comes to a close. Hiller has served in the role since 2013.

The Statesboro Regional Sexual Assault Center, Inc. (SRSAC/The Teal House) provides emotional support and advocacy for individuals who have been sexually assaulted. SRSAC is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, designated by the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit and law enforcement agencies to serve Bulloch, Jenkins, Screven, and Effingham Counties.

SRSAC is part of the Statesboro area’s Sexual Assault Response Team which includes law enforcement, the prosecutor, the advocate, and the Forensic Nurse Examiners. Education, awareness, and prevention services are also provided.

The Teal House would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Dr. James Hiller for his unwavering dedication as the Medical Director. During his tenure, Dr. Hiller has played an instrumental role in supporting the organization’s mission, helping over 500 victims of sexual assault.

"His contributions have been vital to the continued success of The Teal House, and his passion for serving those in need is reflected in his years of service to both the staff and the community," The Teal House shared.

Dr. Mikell, who is passionate about women’s health and wellbeing, is excited to join the team and bring her expertise to the organization. The Teal House is looking forward to the future with Dr. Mikell’s leadership and is grateful for the continued commitment to their mission.

"It is an unfortunate reality that we live in a world where its services are needed, but I am proud I can play a role in supporting such a wonderful organization and mission," Dr. Mikell said.

Dr. Mikell graduated from the University of Georgia in 2010 as a First Honor Graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a minor in Anthropology. She attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. She graduated from medical school in 2014 at the top of her class and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Medical Honors Society. 

In 2018, she completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has been a physician at Ogeechee OB/GYN since 2018.
