The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an inquiry into an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of 25-year-old Robert Allen Bostic from Warner Robins, Georgia. This incident, reported earlier on Grice Connect, which occurred on the afternoon of June 18, 2024, has left the local community in shock.

The sequence of events began around 2:45 p.m. when Bulloch County 911 Dispatch received multiple alarming calls regarding a black Chevrolet Camaro. According to reports, the vehicle was involved in a series of dangerous activities, including a hit-and-run, reckless driving, and gunfire. The situation escalated when the Camaro, driven by Bostic, was located at the Gas Pro Travel Center at the intersection of Highway 301 and A.J. Riggs Rd.

Before law enforcement arrived, Bostic reportedly pointed a gun at a patron refueling at a nearby pump. The terrified patron quickly retreated to his vehicle and attempted to flee, but Bostic shot at the fleeing vehicle, striking it in the rear. This alarming behavior prompted immediate action from the Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies.

Upon their arrival, deputies found the Camaro parked at a gas pump. They strategically positioned their vehicles, one at the front and another at the rear of the Camaro, in an effort to contain the situation. Bostic exited the driver's side of the Camaro, prompting a deputy to issue commands for him to show his hands. Ignoring these commands, Bostic drew a handgun and fired at one of the deputies. In response, both deputies discharged their weapons, striking Bostic multiple times.

His body will undergo an autopsy at the GBI Crime Lab as part of the investigation process.

Sheriff Brown commended his deputies for their courage and professionalism in handling the situation and expressed gratitude for the rapid response from various assisting agencies, including the Georgia State Patrol, Statesboro Police Department, Georgia Southern University Police Department, Bulloch County EMS, and the Georgia Department of Transportation (Ga. D.O.T.).

Sheriff Brown emphasized, "that his deputies displayed courage and a great deal of professionalism in the way they handled this unfortunate situation," and expressed relief that no officers or innocent bystanders were harmed.

The GBI is carrying out an independent investigation into the incident. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for a thorough review. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact either the GBI or the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office.
