Summer food service program sites will open June 1

Statesboro and Bulloch County will host meal sites this summer for Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia's Happy Helpings summer food program. Article includes list of open and closed sites in our area. Most open June 1.

America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia is participating in Happy Helpings, Georgia’s Summer Food Service Program. Most feeding sites will open for the summer on Thursday, June 1, 2023.

See below for available feeding sites in Statesboro and Bulloch County. All eligible individuals may receive meals at the open site. Only those who are enrolled in a program at the closed sites and meet provided income requirements are able to pick up meals there.

All participating locations will be posted on at https://www.helpendhunger.org/summer-feeding/ as well as on Second Harvest's social media channels. Locations are available in Bryan, Bulloch, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Tattnall, and Wayne counties. The latest updates, changes, and closures can be found on the website as the summer progresses.

Meals at open sites will be provided to all children without charge. Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Only children who are enrolled in a summer program at these closed sites may receive meals here. To be eligible to receive free meals at a residential camp, children must meet the income guidelines for reduced-price meals in the National School Lunch Program. The income guidelines for reduced-price meals by family size are listed below. 

Children who are part of households that receive food stamps, or benefits under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) are automatically eligible to receive free meals. Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
