Bulloch County Public Safety agencies responded to investigate reports of a male shot on Tuesday afternoon near Paulson Stadium.
Bulloch County 911 dispatched Statesboro Police Department (SPD) and Bulloch County EMS to Cambridge at Southern - The Palms located at 130 Lanier Drive near Paulson Stadium at 4:17 pm on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. This apartment complex is not on the Georgia Southern Campus but is near campus.
When SPD officers arrived on the scene they confirmed one male had been shot at Stadium Walk apartments, which is located beside Cambridge at 140 Lanier Drive, and fled to Cambridge for assistance. Bulloch County EMS transported the gunshot victim to a Lifestar medical helicopter standing by at the Air Evac 95 base at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds. Air Evac was tied up on another mission. He was flown by the Lifestar flight crew to the level one trauma center, Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.
According to Mike Broadhead, SPD Chief, the victim was alert and talking when he left the scene.
Multiple SPD officers, detectives and K-9 units from SPD and Bulloch Sheriff's Department responded to the scene and attempted to track and locate the shooter.
Chief Broadhead said at this time the shooter has not been identified and is still at large. He encourages citizens to avoid the area and those in the complex to stay alert.
SPD officers will remain on the scene processing and investigating the crime scene. Expect a heavy police presence to continue throughout the evening.
