The Statesboro Police Department is urging residents to stay vigilant as a scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming unpaid Peach Pass toll fees continues to circulate. Officials warn that these messages, which appear to come from Peach Pass, direct recipients to click a link to resolve an alleged unpaid toll, a tactic commonly used by scammers to steal personal information or payments.

Peach Pass has previously issued statements clarifying that they do not send text messages regarding unpaid toll fees. The public is advised to ignore and delete these messages, as well as avoiding to click any links or make payments to them.

To protect against falling victim to this scam, authorities recommend taking the following steps:

  • Report the scam by filing a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at www.ic3.gov, including the originating phone number and the fraudulent website link.
  • Verify account status by checking directly through the official Peach Pass website or mobile app.
  • Delete suspicious messages to prevent accidental interaction.

As scams like this continue to evolve, officials stress the importance of staying cautious and only using verified sources for toll-related inquiries and payments.
