Phil Lewis, a member of the Statesboro High School Class of 2015, auditioned on NBC's America's Got Talent last night, Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Lewis, 27, performed a self-taught baton twirling act and wowed the judges with his energy and precision. He was a drum major for the Statesboro High School Marching Band and taught himself the baton after seeing a video of it on YouTube.

He later studied dance at BYU-Idaho and currently lives in Salt Lake City, UT, where he works in health and wellness, in addition to performing in local theatre.

"He's really good," said the notoriously hard to impress Simon Cowell before the performance was even over. Lewis drew a standing ovation from all four judges and the audience. The judges described his act as "spectacular" and "incredible."

"Your showmanship, by the way, is off the chart," Cowell told Lewis. "Over the years, this is the best I've ever seen."

His performance received a unanimous and enthusiastic vote of "YES," moving him on to the next round of the competition.

Following the vote, Lewis said of his dedication, "It was hours and hours in my front yard in the hot Georgia sun, and now being able to have done this on America's Got Talent, it's just so surreal."

You can follow Lewis's journey on AGT on Tuesdays at 8pm EST on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
