On Saturday, June 17th, the 3rd Annual “Juneteenth Music & Food Festival” will be held in front of the Honey Bowen Building at 1 Max Lockwood Drive in Statesboro. The event will take place from 1pm-6pm and feature bounce houses, food vendors, musical acts, and so much more. Children will eat free at the event!

The festival is being conducted as a partnership between the NAACP Bulloch County Chapter and the New Age Black Panthers (NABP). The NAACP Bulloch County Chapter and NABP are both Title Sponsors to the Juneteenth Festival this year.

“Juneteenth” is a national holiday which commemorates the emancipation day of African American enslaved people on June 19th, 1865. (So "June-nineteenth" is now recognized as "Juneteenth.")

All locals are invited to participate in this commemorative festival for a day of fun.

This year, the Bulloch NAACP and NABP plan to commemorate the holiday through its hosting of several field day events and activities. Field day events include tug-of-war, three-legged race, flag football, and relay races. Activities will include live musical performances, educational history being shared on Juneteenth, and spoken word poems.

Yevette McCall, President of the NAACP Bulloch County Chapter, invites all locals to come out and participate in this community event.

“We want all locals to participate in this Juneteenth festival," McCall said. "Juneteenth is undoubtedly a holiday which commemorates the enslavement of African American people and the adversity they faced. However, it is largely a festival centered on the freedom and unity of all people, celebrating unity as we all move forward. Everyone is invited to come out and participate.”

The Bulloch County NAACP and NABP are still seeking additional vendors and sponsors for the event. If you are interested in becoming a vendor or sponsor for the Juneteenth Festival or for more information on the event itself, please contact Yevette McCall at [email protected].
