Community volunteers answered the Food Bank's call after Tropical Storm Debby flooded Bulloch County. These are the current donation needs.

In the wake of Tropical Storm Debby, our Statesboro Food Bank has provided an unbelievable 64,701 meals to families in our community. Last week alone, the Food Bank provided 22,470 meals.

"We, with your help, have assisted 987 families get through, for some, the worst trauma imaginable, the loss of their home and its contents," Sheila Stewart-Leach, executive director of the Food Bank, said.

However, as the need continues to grow and the shelves remain depleted, the Food Bank is still in dire need of donations from the community. They continue to need massive quantities of the following items:

  • Cereal
  • Canned tuna, chicken, etc.
  • Soups and stews, chili
  • Saltines
  • Canned fruit
  • Canned and dried beans
  • Pasta and macaroni
  • 1 & 2 lb bags of rice
  • Fruit juice
  • Peanut butter
  • Bottled water

They also need egg cartons for packing the many eggs they give out on a weekly basis. The community is asked to save and donate their egg cartons, and volunteers are always welcome to put the eggs into the cartons!

Community members can also donate financially so that the Food Bank can purchase what it needs through its suppliers. Text StopHunger to 53555 and follow the prompts. Or mail a check to PO Box 543, Statesboro, GA 30459.

"So many have already given and we are so appreciative, but the donations are not yet meeting the need that was brought on by the storm," Stewart-Leach added. "So if you can, please continue to help, whether with food, donations, or your time!"

Donations can be dropped off any time between 9am and 4pm, Monday through Friday, and until 7pm on Tuesdays. Volunteers are also welcome during those times.

The Food Bank is located at 506 Miller Street at Northside Drive W. in Statesboro and serves Bulloch County and the rural counties surrounding it. For more information, please visit statesborofoodbank.org/.
