Statesboro apartment complex evacuated after afternoon fire

Residents of a Statesboro apartment complex were forced to evacuate Monday afternoon after a fire broke out in one of the units. The quick response of local fire departments prevented the blaze from spreading, but the incident left one apartment with fire and smoke damage.

A Statesboro apartment complex was evacuated Monday afternoon after a fire broke out in one of the units. 

Bulloch County 911 dispatched Statesboro and Bulloch County Fire Departments to Cambridge at Southern - The Pines, located at 122 Lanier Drive, shortly after reports of a fire were received around 4:00 PM, Monday, August 19, 2024. 

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find light smoke coming from one of the apartments. Out of caution, the entire building was evacuated as crews worked to assess and control the situation. 

The fire, believed to have started in the kitchen, was swiftly extinguished by the responding firefighters. While the apartment where the fire originated sustained damage from the flames and smoke, several other units were also affected by smoke.

Statesboro Police Department officers and paramedics from Bulloch County EMS were also on the scene to assist. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries. 

Statesboro Fire will conduct a routine cause and origin investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fire.
