On August 2nd, 2024, Statesboro Police Department officers responded to a series of reports of auto break-ins at three apartment complexes along Fair Road and Lanier Drive. Overnight, several vehicles were targeted, and one was stolen. The stolen vehicle was swiftly entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
Statesboro's Flock tag reader system, installed in 2023, played a crucial role in this case. Designed to detect stolen vehicles, the system began registering hits for the stolen car in Atlanta just hours after the theft. Atlanta Police were able to locate the vehicle and apprehend two 17-year-old suspects from Statesboro, Demial Tribble and Jermaine Saunders. Both were taken into custody at the Fulton County Jail.
Recovered from the vehicle were items stolen during the reported auto break-ins.
Tribble and Saunders will be returned to Bulloch County to face charges of Theft by Taking Motor Vehicle and multiple counts of Entering Auto.
Since its installation, the Flock system, along with the Fusus video sharing platform, has been instrumental in solving over 30 major felony cases in Statesboro, including three homicides and eight aggravated assaults. These systems have also aided in the recovery of 11 stolen vehicles and continue to be vital tools in crime prevention and resolution.
