On Saturday, April 22, 2023, the Statesboro High School National Honor Society (NHS) will host its third annual Walk at Womack (formerly The Tulip Trot) on Womack Field at SHS from 9:00am-12:00pm. The event aims to raise money for the Parkinson's Foundation.

The event will feature vendors with freebies, activities, music, and a chance to walk the track while honoring those affected by Parkinson’s Disease. The event is not only a fundraiser but also an expo for people to learn more about Parkinson's and related movement disorders.

Representatives will be available to answer questions and share materials that can help patients, patient families, caretakers, friends, and family. Attendees can expect to visit with the St. Joseph's/Candler Movement Disorder Center, the Statesboro Family YMCA, Coastal Plain Therapy and Wellness, Chatham County's Anderson Cohen Gym, local neurologists, local pharmacies, local assisted living facilities, and more.

"This event is very near and dear to many hearts within NHS, as several members have loved ones affected by Parkinson’s Disease," said Shannon Anderson, NHS advisor. "It’s truly personal for me. My grandpa dealt with it for many years, and my uncle and I fight the disease daily."

Anderson welcomes business owners to sponsor the event, and even those who will be unable to attend the event itself can donate to the fundraiser online.

"Last year, we raised $9,000 for the Parkinson's Foundation and hope to exceed $10,000 this year," Anderson added. "But we need help in making this event a success! It doesn’t matter where you live, you can get involved."
