The new owner of Shane’s Rib Shack in Statesboro, Grant Watkins, is excited to reopen the restaurant's doors today after the BBQ joint’s temporary closure about two weeks ago.

With the same menu as before, plus the reintroduction of some old favorites like the Shack potato, dedicated employees, who regulars know and love, will be serving customers again, between 11am and 8pm everyday.

“It just needed some TLC,” said Watkins, detailing some of the renovations that the restaurant underwent during its closure.

He says the tables and booths have been restained and recoated, floor tiles and walls have been repaired, and new equipment has moved into the kitchen. A few tasks, like adding fresh paint to the walls, will be completed in the weeks to come.

Watkins, who was born and raised in Statesboro, says his family has lived in town for more than 50 years. After attending Georgia Southern University and moving to Atlanta, Georgia, he became an operating partner for another franchise restaurant, Blaze Pizza, later acquiring the rights for locations in Brunswick and Valdosta.

In the past year, Watkins became the owner of a Shane’s Rib Shack in Brunswick, where he now lives. After 18 years of owning and operating restaurants across the state, Watkins says he is excited to take care of this iconic eatery in Statesboro and bring Shane’s Rib Shack back to the glory he remembers growing up with.
