The Parker College of Business at Georgia Southern University recently honored Billy Hickman, CPA and Georgia State Senator, with the Distinguished Service Award at its annual Gala.
The award recognizes Hickman’s outstanding contributions to the accounting profession, his business success, and his deep commitment to the community and the university.
The highest award conferred by Parker College, the Distinguished Service Award honors alumni who exemplify the aspirations, accomplishments, and reach of the college. Honorees have provided outstanding support to the college throughout their lifetime, hold a position of distinction in business, government, or academia, have demonstrated outstanding success in their field, and are recognized civic leaders in their communities.

A tribute video shown during the event highlighted Hickman’s journey from his humble beginnings—growing up in a home without indoor plumbing—to his time at Georgia Southern, his rise in the accounting profession, and his extensive involvement in civic and professional organizations.
The video featured interviews with close friends, colleagues, and his wife, JoAnn, who shared insights into his character, leadership, and dedication to service.
