Sallie Z. students receive adaptive Amtryke

Through the collaboration of their teacher, Rachel Murray, and Dr. Kailee Sylvester at The Therapy SPOT, the students now have their very own adaptive bike to use during their outside time at school!

In the fall of 2022, Rachel Murray, a special education teacher at Sallie Zetterower Elementary School, submitted an Innovation Grant application to the Bulloch County Foundation for Public Education. Her application proposed funding additional accessible activities for her to use at recess time with her students who are in wheelchairs or have other disabilities.

The Foundation awarded Murray a $1,500 grant. It covered the cost of funding an AmTryke adaptive bike and several other smaller items.

Dr. Kai Sylvester of The Therapy SPOT has helped Murray with obtaining the proper measurements for the bike and collaborating with the local AMBUCS chapter to order the bike. The bikes do not come assembled, so the Statesboro Fire Department volunteers to put them together

The Therapy Spot and the Statesboro Fire Department (with a fire truck) came to Sallie Z to present the bike to Mrs. Murray and her students on April 21.
