Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) is proud to announce the appointment of retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Jason Zdunich as the head of Military and Community Relations —a strategic role and initiative designed to strengthen ties with the military community and support veterans transitioning to civilian careers.

Zdunich, who served more than 37 years in the U.S. Army, joined HMGMA in May 2023 as an assistant manager in the Learning and Development Department. His recent reassignment reflects the company’s commitment to engaging with the surrounding community and recognizing the unique value veterans bring to the workforce.

In his new role, Zdunich will serve as the liaison for community groups and organizations, but he will also serve as a bridge between HMGMA and the region’s robust military population. He will work directly with active-duty, reserve, and National Guard personnel, veterans, local military organizations and veteran’s groups to support workforce development initiatives and help service members successfully transition to post-military careers.

“As a veteran myself, I understand the uncertainty that comes with transitioning out of the military,” Zdunich said. “You know your worth and your skill set—but translating that into a resume or understanding where you fit in the civilian world can be overwhelming. HMGMA gave me a chance, and now I want to do the same for others. This is a military community, and our veterans have everything it takes to thrive in advanced manufacturing and beyond. Sometimes, they just need someone to help them make that connection.”

While still in its early stages, the initiative aims to create new pathways for veterans and military families to explore career opportunities at HMGMA, including mentorship, resume-building assistance and tailored guidance through the application process.

Zdunich will also serve as a dedicated point of contact for veteran Meta Pros—HMGMA’s internal name for its employees—providing resources, advocacy, and a sense of community within the workplace.

“Veterans bring leadership, discipline, and a mission-first mindset,” said Brent Stubbs, Chief Administrative Officer at HMGMA. “We recognize the value of that experience. By creating this role, we’re investing in the people who’ve served and ensuring they feel seen, supported and empowered to succeed. Jason’s leadership and first-hand experience make him the perfect person to lead this effort.”

Currently, HMGMA employs 84 Meta Pros who are veterans or serve in the National Guard or Reserve. The company plans to grow that number as it continues building out its workforce.

For Zdunich, the role is more than a job—it’s a mission.

“This is personal for me,” he said. “I want every service member to know that there is a place for them here—not just a job, but a career and a community that respects their journey.”
